Business Administration Intern

  • Location: Winona, MN
  • Program: There is 1 position available for each academic semester
  • Hours: approx 10 hours per week flexible during business hours
  • Pay: $7.25 per hour

Internship summary:

VMG is a rapidly growing small business that occupies a unique market niche. This program is suited for the business student that has a passion for entrepreneurial start up business. This program is designed to give senior level business majors a practical business experience. Principle work duties will be to provide part time administrative support to a medical solutions company. In addition, this is intended to be a learning experience. Each intern will be assigned a mentor who will meet weekly with the intern to provide feedback. The mentor will assign readings for the intern to be completed during work hours. These readings on basic business principles will form the background for the mentoring sessions. Principle Requirements:

  • Must be a HUBZone Resident – VMG is a HUBZone certified business by the SBA. These positions are specifically designated as HUBZone positions within VMG. Applicants should go to HubZone Maps to place their address to see if they reside in a HUBZone census tract. Non HUBZone residents should not apply.
  • Must have basic business fundamentals – It is expected that each intern will have a basic understanding of business principles such as administration, business development, sales, marketing, accounting, and human resources.
  • Veterans Preferred – VMG is a service disabled, veteran owned small business as verified by the Center for Veterans Enterprise of the Veterans Administration. The majority of our business is with the US government. As such, we are required and support a Veterans Affirmative Action hiring policy.

Principle Accountabilities:

  • Fulfillment of front desk duties including greeting and directing visitors
  • Appropriately handle incoming and outgoing calls with messages as needed
  • Manage mail
  • Prepare checks for payment.
  • Track and complete license renewals.
  • Document management to include, scanning, filing and shredding documents.
  • Calendar management, setting appointments
  • Office travel management
  • Office maintenance and clean up
  • Complete tasks as assigned and manage task list
  • Errands as requested

Reports to:

Business Administration Manager or their representative

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Must have exceptional customer service abilities
  • Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Google (Gmail, Google documents, Google calendar, Google Business Apps)
  • Database management
  • Internet research capabilities
  • Other PC Software

Experience & Education:

  • Must be currently enrolled in a school of higher education as a business major or minor
  • Administrative experience desirable
  • Preferred to have experience in MS Office and Google Applications
  • US military services veteran preferred

Travel:

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Some light travel required

Physical Requirements/Working Environment:

  • Must be able to sit up to 4 hours per day
  • Must be able to use an elevator or walk up & down stairs
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs and carry up to 10 ft.
  • Must be able to routinely grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbows/knees and reach above and below shoulders
  • Must be able to read and interpret typewritten print
  • Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear
  • Must be able to perform duties in an indoor office environment
  • Must be able to travel by vehicle up to 1 hour
  • All interns must undergo a background check
  • All interns must sign a non-disclosure agreement
